Scrapping Adventure Island for an Adventure Vacation - Travel - Destinations

This may come as a surprise, but enduring mile-long lines amidst whiny toddlers for a three-minute roller coaster ride at Walt Disney World isn't the ideal vacation for some people. With life's stresses constantly hanging over our heads like an ominous rain cloud, it's not uncommon to long for brighter skies and more exotic vacations. But, let's face it, some of the "exotic" places that immediately pop into mind-the Bahamas, Jamaica, Bermuda-are becoming overrun with resorts and tourists that can invoke just as much stress as the line for Splash Mountain.

Dominica-not to be confused with fellow Caribbean island, the Dominican Republic-rests just under 400 miles southeast of Puerto Rico. With only 70,000 inhabitants sprawled across this undulating 290-square-mile island, a Dominica vacation is a sure-fire recipe to forget life's stresses. Dominica, in many respects, is one of the few untouched gems in the Caribbean that provides a comfortable stay while still offering lots of activities to enjoy.

So, just to get the basics here, Dominica offers a vacation spot with a potpourri of unspoiled nature, some of the best hiking and best snorkeling, and the option of staying in hotels, guest homes, or apartments. Oh, and the primary language is English. Almost seems too good to be true. Well, it's not. Save yourself the imminent migraines from your traditional "vacation spots" and test the waters with a unique vacation in Dominica where there is no need to worry about what time the bus leaves the hotel for MGM Studios. In Dominica, if you choose to embark on a hiking expedition, it's more than likely that one is waiting at the doorstep of your hilltop villa. In a world that revolves around development, it's important to try and get away from time to time, and islands like Dominica can serve as a reminder that untouched beauty still remains on this planet.
