Okra With Lime Juice - Health - Alternative Medicine

Okra is primarily a hot-weather tropical vegetable that can be grown in both northern and southern gardens. A tall-growing annual often called gumbo, it grows best in the southern states, where two crops of it can be grown in a single year.

Being born and raised in the deep South, I do not know where my recently developed taste for spicy food came from. I do not remember much spicy food being served at the dinner table when I was growing up. Although life has taken me far from the South, my love for the Southern cuisine has never diminished.

Filipino cuisine is a melting pot of strong flavors with a fusion of Chinese, Spanish, American and other Asian influences. Almost every family has someone who knows how to cook our local cuisine, with some adding some twists and other ingredients to make a common dish with their very own signature style.

Senegal is a country that I, personally know well. It's a country of many parts being almost desert in the North, tropical rainforest in the East and with an extensive Atlantic coast on the West. It also totally encompasses the tiny country of The Gambia.

Most important, however, it is a key means of preventing disease and an opportunity to rest and revitalize the body. As a preventative tool, it is advised to detox at least two or three times annually, depending on the nature of the detox plan used. Years of experience with detoxification has convinced me that a good detox program should be no less than three days.

A nutritious diet includes adequate amount of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins, selected from five basic groups - fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grain products, proteins (meat, fish, pulses, and lentils), milk and other dairy products. Eat a variety of food as possible but in moderation, as too much of any food can cause excessive weight gain. Try and eat 3 big meals and 3 small meals throughout the day.

Many of the island's main dishes are seasoned with adobo and sofrito, spice mixtures that impart those flavors that the island is so well known for. Adobo, which can vary from cook to cook, or if bought prepared, from manufacturer to manufacturer, generally consists of black peppercorns, oregano, salt, garlic, olive oil, and lime juice.

Because Ama is seen to be a result of improper digestion, one of the main ways to treat arthritis with Ayruveda is to hone in on the digestion and work to the end that no more ama is produced. One of the best ways to do this is by fasting.

The Carib Indians added more spice to their food with hot pepper sauces, and also added lemon and lime juice to their meat and fish recipes. The Caribs are said to have made the first pepper pot stew. No recipes exist since every time the Indians made the dish, they would always add new ingredients. The Carib had a big impact on early Caribbean history, and the Caribbean sea was named after this tribe.

Salad vegetables are next on the list. These are a good source of fiber. Remember to count carbs.
